Sonata for Harp

(Germaine Tailleferre)

Composition for solo harp written by Germaine Taillefaire for the Spanish harpist Nicanor Zabaleta in 1953.  The piece was later revised in 1957.

It has influences of Spain, expressionism and jazz and contains the three movements that have been described, in order as lullaby-like, mysterious, quick paced and are listed below:

  1. Allegretto
  2. Lento
  3. Perpetuum Mobile

The sonata has been performed and recorded by many artists that include the Art Nouveau Ensemble, Jennifer Cass, Maria Graf, Ieuan Jones, Judy Loman, Isabelle Moretti, Sara O’Brien, Masumi Nagasawa and Jennifer Swartz along with several others.
