S.A. Blue Cats

Hailing from San Antonio, Texas, the independent working band known as the S.A. Blue Cats came into being in 2005 when they concentrated on fund raising performances and jam sessions as the member band of the San Antonio Blues Society.

Led by Mike Davis, they soon got their name known throughout the San Antonio and Central Texas area and grew into an ensemble which is adept in a wide range of instruments. They have a broad repertoire of various styles of blues based music stretching from 1920’s and ‘30s acoustic to the electric blues from the ‘50s and ‘60s to the modern day rock blues.

Although they have a main member base, they have often been joined by guest artists, which they dub “Spare Cats”. These include the bassist Jack Barber, the drummer Steve “T-Bone” Bland, the guitarist and singer Scott Mayo, the saxophonist Ray Peralez and the trumpeter Rich Tellez.

In 2009 they were honoured for their work in music when they received a Rammy Award for Best R&B Band which was awarded by the San Antonio Current. They also released their debut CD entitled San Antonio Blues Society Presents The S.A. Blue Cats Live.

In 2010 some of their engagements were performing at the Luckenbach, Texas 3^rd Annual Blues Festival, at the Auslander in Fredericksburg, Texas and at Sam’s Burger Joint Music Hall, the Luminaria Arts Night and Mi Casa Tamales in San Antonio. It was also a time when their drummer Urban Urbano left them in a move to Kentucky.
