The orchestra was founded in 1933 in Queensland, Australia. It became a 57 member orchestra in 1947 under their composer-in-residence John Farnsworth. They toured considerably and their most famous recording is possibly Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. In 2001 they merged with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra to become the Queensland Orchestra.
