New London Children’s Choir

This children’s choir was founded by the composer and conductor Ronald Corp in 1991 where he held the position of Artistic Director.  It comprised three groups with a Training Choir, a Youth Choir and a Senior Choir for children that aged from 7 to 18 that came from London and the local area.  It enjoyed the patronage of the composers Michael Nyman, Oliver Knussen and Louis Andriessen.

Rehearsals were held first at Highgate Primary School and later at All Hallows, Gospel Oak in London and it gave many performances nationally and internationally in Europe and the United States.   Their final rehearsal was held in July 2022.

They performed at many special events with orchestras that include the Philharmonia, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. Some of these events were the Queen’s 80th Birthday Prom along with yearly appearances at the Proms, the Royal opening of St. Pancras International railway station in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II, the conductor Lorin Maazel’s 70th Birthday Celebration, the Aldeburgh Festival in 2007 and premieres of new works which included many commissions.  They also worked with numerous opera companies and artists such as Nick Cave, Katherine Jenkins and Lou Reed.

Making numerous recordings they were the winner of a 2008 Grammy Award for their performance of Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck with Sir Charles Mackerras and the Philharmonia.  Other recordings they performed on include their own Pigs Could Fly and Britten: A Ceremony of Carols along with The Christmas Album by Roberto Alagna, Andrea by Andrea Bocelli, Dream a Dream by Charlotte Church, Benjamin Britten: St. Nicolas/Christ’s Nativity/Psalm 150 by the English Chamber Orchestra,  Vindaloo: The Best of Fat Les by Fat Les, Carl Orff: Carmina Burana by the London Festival Orchestra, Tchaikovsky: The Nutcracker by the London Philharmonic, Prokofiev: Ivan the Terrible/Alexander Nevsky by the London Symphony Orchestra, Michael Hurd: Orchestral Music & Pop Cantatas by the New London Orchestra, Mahler: Symphony No. 3 by the Philharmonia, Romany Wood (A Musical for Children) by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Jewish Voices in the New World with Schola Hebraeica, 2000 Today: A World Symphony for the Millennium by Tan Dun, Outside In by Russell Watson, Star Wars Sampler by John Williams and the soundtrack of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and various compilations.
