This ensemble was initially formed as the London Virtuosi Chamber Ensemble in 1972 by John Georgiadis. The original members included Anthony Camden, James Galway, Douglas Cummings, David Lumsden, Brian Hawkins and Jane Ryan with John Georgiadis on violin.
They made their first recording in the chapel at New College Oxford in 1972 and went on to make many more recordings.
After James Galway left to join the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and various others also moved on, several changes were made and they evolved into the London Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.
Currently the Music Director is John Georgiadis and the Artistic Director is Anthony Camden and they have become internationally acclaimed through their recordings and worldwide touring.
