This orchestra was founded in London by the conductor and arranger, John Wilson, in 1996. The 17 members are a combination of session and jazz musicians and further strings are added to recreate the music’s original arrangements by composers such as George Gershwin and Cole Porter.
Its repertoire covers over 15,000 pieces and it has performed in venues that include Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Royal Festival Hall.
Having released several successful CDs, it is the accompanying orchestra on the soundtrack for the Kevin Spacey biographical film of the life of the singer Bobby Darin, Beyond the Sea. It has also appeared on several of Sir Paul McCartney’s compositions.
