Ensemble de’ Medici

This early music ensemble was formed in Los Angeles, California by the trombonist, composer and arranger Keller Coker who is a doctor of music in early music performance and a founder of the American Metropole Orchestra.  Although very involved with historical music he is also a jazz trombonist and teacher

The ensemble of 10 singers and musicians performed on Coker’s newly founded RCM label in the 1990s where he and the lutenist James Tyler had worked on very early music and first concentrated on compositions by the 16th century composer Girolamo Frescobaldi.

Its debut recording was Frescobaldi: Begli Occhi Io Non Provo was released in 1994 with Isaac: Natalis Domini and  Roland de Lassus: La Cortesia following.  The ensemble were also featured on the compilation recording Windham Hill: The Renaissance Album.
