Country and western singer-songwriter born in Big Hill, Kentucky, whose brothers include Brady Seals of Little Texas, Dan Seals (of England Dan & John Ford Coley fame) and Jim Seals of Seals & Crofts.
In the ’70s, he recorded with Doug Kershaw and Lonnie Mack, and released two solo albums, but Troy’s forte was composition.
In 1986, he was awarded ASCAP’s Country Songwriter of the Year award for Ronnie Milsap’s “Lost in the Fifties Tonight (In the Still of the Night)”. It was also nominated for the Country Music Association’s Song of the Year award, along with “Seven Spanish Angels” (1985) and “If You Ever Have Forever In Mind” (1999).
In 1988, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. His other songwriting credits include Eric Clapton’s “I’ve Got a Rock and Roll Heart”, “When We Make Love”, a #1 hit for Alabama in 1984, and “Two Old Cats Like Us” for Ray Charles and Hank Williams, Jr.
