Mazzucchi, Alfredo (1878-1972)

Alfredo Mazzucchi was a footnote in the world of music until 1973 when his descendants sued for the copyright of eighteen songs they claimed he co-wrote with Eduardo di Capua, including the gold mine “O Sole Mio”.

Mazzucchi was an assistant and transcriber to Capua, although he was also a composer, pianist, and violinist, and would frequently ask Capua to help him dust up his own compositions.  ” O Sole Mio” was in the public domain for about seventy-five years, as Capua and lyricist Giovanni Capurro sold their rights outright.  It is now protected by copyright until 2042.
