He is a keyboard player, guitarist and songwriter/composer born in Stanmore, Middlesex,England, who became part of the London pub group Kilburn and the High Roads with Ian Dury. He stayed with them when they became Ian Dury and the Blockheads and co-wrote most of their hits with Ian Dury.
He left them to pursue a solo career around 1979, but did go back and work with Ian Dury again on his controversial song “Spasticus Autisticus”.
He released several albums through the 1980s including Chazablanca and Questionnaire and he had US No. 1 dance hits in 1982 with the single “Ai No Corrida”, which had also charted for Quincy Jones in 1981, and “Glad to Know You”, which was also in collaboration with Ian Dury.
As a film composer he has written music for films including The Rachel Papers, War Party, D.O.A., K2 and Tales from the Darkside: The Movie.
