Born in New York he was a composer, author and archaeologist who was educated at Cornell University and received a degree in agriculture.
Prior to WWII he opened a dairy farm, worked in real estate and construction and during the war he was a Flight Test Engineer and Instructor.
He wrote the stage score for The Princess Pocahontas in London and after joining ASCAP his collaborators included Duke Ellington and Francis Craig.
His popular songs include “Huggin’ and Chalkin'”, “Since You Went Away” and “One Finger Melody”.
He died on Peaks Island , Cumberland, Maryland , aged 82.
