Bedford, Mark (24th August 1961-Present)

He is a bass guitarist, double bassist and singer-songwriter born Mark William Bedford in London, England, and nicknamed “Bedders”.

While attending school in Kentish Town he met the members of the North London Invaders through his friend Gary Dovey, who was their drummer, and he was asked to a rehearsal.  After Gary Dovey left the band he was the one that introduced Daniel Woodgate, “Wooders” to replace him.

The group became Morris and the Minors and then evolved into Madness which was one of the most popular British bands of the 1980s.  He was involved in the writing of several of the band’s songs including the No. 17 hit “One Better Day”.

They disbanded in 1986 and he went on to join Voice of the Beehive, followed by forming the band BUtterfield 8 with members of the jazz scene of that period.

Madness re-united in 1992 with the original line-up but between 1993 and 1995 he took a break from them.  He returned to the band as a recording and touring member but his appearance became more sporadic from around 2009 and he did not tour Australia with them that year.

Since 2011 he ha also performed as a member of The Lee Thompson Ska Orchestra.
