He is a double bass player born in St. Paul, Minnesota who studied at the University of Minnesota and Indiana University before going to the Curtis Institute of Music, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree.
He was a musician with the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra for seven summers and after graduation held the position of Principal Bass with the New Orleans Symphony. He became a member of the Minnesota Orchestra in 1986 and has since performed in a huge variety of the orchestra’s concerts and programs.
As a chamber musician he has performed at the orchestra’s Sommerfest, been a participant at the Colonial Chamber Series and was a co-founder of the Minnesota Bach Ensemble in 2013. He has also performed with several other ensembles that include the Artaria String Quartet, Bach Chamber Players of St. Paul, the Bakken Trio, the Isles Ensemble along with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra as the guest Principal Bass.
Participating in music festivals he has been Principal Bass of the Oregon Bach Festival since 2001 and has performed at the Music in the Vineyards festival and the Grand Teton Music Festival.
In the field of musical education he taught bass with the Cuban American Youth Orchstra in Cuba from 2019 to 2022, has been a faculty member of St. Olaf College and a guest faculty member at Stringwood, which is a Minnesota chamber music camp.
Outside of music he is a certified hockey coach and canoeist.
