He is a multi-instrumentalist born in Los Angeles who is the son of the composer John Williams and the brother of Joseph Williams who was a singer of the group Toto.
He studied drums under Joe Porcaro, studied music theory and attended Berklee College of Music from 1976 to 1979.
He played drums for the group Air Supply from 1995 to 2003 and has also played on albums and on tours for artists including Don Henley, Cher, Tina Turner and Crosby Stills & Nash.
He has released solo albums under his own label, Andromeda and plays most of the instruments that are heard on his albums.
