Williams, Daniel (1950-Present)

He is a horn player from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who began studying the horn at school when he was 9 years old and went on to take further studies at the Curtis Institute of Music and Temple University where his teachers included several members of  The Philadelphia Orchestra.

While attending the Curtis Institute of Music he gave performances with the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Symphony in the summer season.  In 1975, while still a student, he became a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra where he held the position of second horn.  He retired in 2019 after completing 44 years’ service with the orchestra.

Recordings he has performed on include Gabrieli for Brass by The Canadian Brass and Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra.

In the field of musical education he is a faculty member of the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University.

His wife, Yumi-Hwang-Williams is the concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
