Wilfinger, Gerald (1973

Violinist from Vorau, Austria, who attended the Oberschutzen and Vienna music academies and the summer academy in Salzburg. His teachers included Shmuel Ashkenasi, Gerhard Schulz, Ulla Schulz and Franz Zeyringer.

Groups with whom he has worked include the Ambassade Orchestra, the Ambassade String Quartett, the Arioso Quartett, Ensemble 1080, the Johann Strauss Quartett, the Vienna Classical Players, the Vienna Imperial Orchestra and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

In November 2005, the Ambassade String Quartett teamed up with MoZuluArt for a program entitled “Zulu Music Meets Mozart” and they have collaborated several times since.

Gerald and bassoonist Robert Gillinger, oboist Paul Kaiser and violist Wolfgang Prochaska offered up a program entitled “Fantasia—alte Musik aus England” in Brahms Hall at Musikverein Wien on 11^th February 2009. Their program comprised John Baldwin’s “Upon in Nomine”, John Coperario’s Fantasias I-II, Christoph Herndler’s “Wiegeh’nlied”, Robert Johnson’s “In Nomine”, Matthew Locke’s suites nos. 2 and 5 from “Consort of Fowre Parts”, Henry Purcell’s Fantasias IV-VIII, John Taverner’s “In Nomine” and Robert White’s “In Nomine”.

On 9^th March 2009, at the same venue, he was one of a handful of musicians to participate in “The Koan Project”, a multimedia presentation incorporating Ty Waltinger’s art with soprano Lana Cencic’s music and vibraphonist Flip Philipp’s arrangements.

The Ambassade String Quartett reunited with MoZuluArt for “An African Christmas” at the Odeon in Vienna on 28^th November 2010.

On 8^th November 2011, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Eroica Trio interpreted Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano in C major, Op. 56” (“Triple Concerto”) in Foellinger Great Hall at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The concert concluded with Johannes Brahms’ “Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73”.
