He is a percussionist and teacher who studied for his Bachelor of Music at the University of Alberta, his Masters at Northwestern University of Illinois, his pre-doctoral studies at the University of Alberta and his doctorate at York University.
His career as a professional musician he has played with several bands and chamber ensembles, been a member of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Edmonton Wind Ensemble, the Edmonton Youth Orchestra and performed at the New Music Chicago Festival. He has also been a musician for several musicals productions.
A writer of articles on percussion and ethnomusicology, he has contributed to conferences hosted by the American chapter of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music and the Society of Ethnomusicology. He has also reviewed videos and recordings and had an article published in the New Grove Dictionary of Music on the subject of Canadian immigrant music.
In the field of musical education he is the chairperson of the Fine Arts Department at Grand Prairie Regional College.
