He is a clarinettist and teacher who took his musical studies at the Interlochen Arts Academy, where he received a Fine Arts Award and the University of Michigan, where he was awarded the Earl V. Moore Award in Music. He took further studies in orchestral clarinet performance after The Music Academy of the West gave him a Whitaker Advanced Study Grant.
His debut as a soloist came when he performed Clarinet Concerto by Carl Neilsen. He later won the first prize when he took part in the Kingsville International Solo Competition as well as reaching the finals of the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, where he won a medal.
After leaving the University of Michigan in 2003 he took on the position of Principal Clarinet with the Kansas City Symphony.
In Carnegie Hall in 2005 he performed the world premiere of Brooklyn Bridge, which is a clarinet concerto by Michael Daugherty. Three years later, in 2008, he became a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
His busy career as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician has seen him performing nationally and internationally with orchestras and ensembles that include the Colorado Music Festival, Corpus Christi Wind Symphony, Grand Teton Festival Orchestra, the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, the New World Symphony, the Phoenix Symphony, the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, The Walden Chamber Players and the Verbier Festival Orchestra. He has also been a participant at the Hot Springs Music Festival and the National Orchestra Institute and performed with Andover Chamber Music.
Recordings he has performed on include the premiere recording of Brooklyn Bridge as well as Michael Daugherty: Raise the Roof with the University of Michigan Symphony Band and Chris Botti: Live in Boston with the Boston Pops Orchestra.
In the field of musical education he has been a faculty member of the New England Conservtory, held masterclasses at the University of Kansas, the University of Missouri-Kansas and the University Michigan. He also visited the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2007 as a guest professor.
