Voglmayr, Walter (1973-Present)

He is a trombonist born in Ried im Innkreis, Austria who studied at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz from 1986.  Two years later he entered Vienna’s University of Music and Performing Arts and then in 1993 moved to the Freiburg im Breisgau State Academy of Music.

In 1996 he was made a substitute principal trombonist at the Bavarian State Opera Munich and in 1997 he moved on to become a solo trombone with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra.  After three years he was given the position of Solo Trombone with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

During his career to date he has performed with many other orchestras and ensembles that include Austrian Brass Connection, Chapelle Royal Paris, Concentus Musicus Wien, Ensemble de la Musique de Toulon, Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Gulbenkian Orchestra Lisbon, Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, Klang Forum Wien, Pro Brass, mund.ART Quintet Wien, Saito Kinen Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Symphony Jazz Project and the Vienna Trombone Quartet among others.

Recordings he has performed on include Michael Haydn: Concerto in D Major for 2 Trombones and Orchestra by Wiener Concert-Verein and All Directions by Trombone Attraction.

In the field of musical education he was a guest professor at the University of Arts in Oberschutzen and has held master classes at events such as the Schagerl Brass Festival and BRASS.actuall at the Vienna Conservatory.
