Vaughan, Karen

Harpist who attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, England, and studied under the watchful eye of Maria Korchinska.

In 1983, she was the hostess of the Maria Korchisnka International Harp Competition & Workshop, which was held on the Isle of Man between England and Scotland.

Karen was one of the founding members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and was the principal harpist of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra before joining the London Symphony Orchestra in 1984.

In 2003, she was elected to the board of directors of the World Harp Congress.  She has also served as the WHC’s associate artistic director, and the U.K. Harp Association’s vice president.  In 2005 and 2008, she participated in the Dublin and Amsterdam congresses, respectively.

In the field of music education, she has served on the faculties of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Harp Masters Academy, the Purcell School, the Royal Academy of Msuisc, and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Karen has also adjudicated at the International Harp Competition, coached the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and the Pacific Youth Orchestra, and given master classes around the world and on the worldwide web, to the YouTube Symphony Orchestra.
