ViolinistViolinistViolinist who began playing at fifteen years of age and co-founded the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. In 1983, he joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra and stayed with them for seven years. He became a member of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1992. Other groups with whom he has worked include the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the European Union Youth Orchestra, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Sinfonia Nova.

On 13^th June 2007, the LSO performed Claude Debussy’s “Three Preludes”, Sergei Prokofiev’s “Violin Concerto No. 1”, with soloist Vadim Repin, and Igor Stravinsky’s Petrushka and “Symphony in Three Movements”.

They teamed up with soloist Andrew Marriner for Debussy’s “First Rhapsody for Clarinet” on 14^th June 2007. It was sandwiched between Prokofiev’s October Cantata and Stravinsky’s Les Noces.

On 8^th May 2007, they shared the stage with soprano Angela Gheorghiu in an evening of opera highlights that featured “Lascia ch’io pianga” from George Frideric Handel’s Rinaldo, “Stridono lassu” from Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, and “Un bel di vedremo” from Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.

Sylvain reunited with the LPO on 17^th April 2010 at Royal Festival Hall for “Symphony No. 3” (“Symphony of Sorrowful Songs”) by Henryk Gorecki, the British premiere of “Texan Tenebrae” by Mark-Anthony Turnage, and the European premiere of “Violin Concerto No. 2” (“The American Four Seasons”) by Philip Glass.

On 19^th October 2011, the LSO offered up an all-Sibelius program that comprised the Finnish master’s “Violin Concerto in D minor”, with soloist Nikolaj Znaider, and “Symphony No. 2 in D major”.

They joined forces with the London Symphony Chorus on 21^st October 2011 for a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Mass in D major (Missa Solemnis).

On 13^th November 2011, they performed the “Allegro assai” from Bela Bartok’s “Divertimento pour orchestre a cordes”, “Barococo” by Alexandros Markeas, “EGAD!” and “Strings on the Wing” by Gareth Glyn, “The Sea and the Sky” by Jeff Moore, and “Souvenir” by Ladislav Kupkovic.

They interpreted Benjamin Britten’s “Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes”, Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Violin Concerto No. 1”, with soloist Sarah Chang, and Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 6” (“Pathetique”) on 23^rd February 2012.

On 11^th May 2012, they presented a wall-to-wall Stravinsky affair that included The Firebird, Mass, and “Violin Concerto in D major”, with soloist Leonidas Kavakos.

They performed Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 3”, with Yefim Bronfman at the keys, and Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 4” on 27^th May 2012.

On 31^st May 2012, Yefim was back at the piano bench, and Gil Shaham joined the fray, as they interpreted Alban Berg’s “Chamber Concerto”, which was followed by Mahler’s “Symphony No. 1” (“Titan”).

Gil was back with them on 3^rd June 2012 for a concert that paired Mahler’s “Symphony No. 5” with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Violin Concerto No. 5” (“Turkish”).
