Vanderspar, Edward

He is a violist and teacher who entered the Guildhall School of Music in 1973 on a scholarship with further studies taken at the Berne Conservatoire.

In 1975 he was given an award by the Countess of Munster Trust and in 1984 won a prize at the Tertis International Viola Competition.

In his professional career he has performed nationally and internationally as a chamber musician and soloist with numerous orchestras and ensembles which include Berne Symphony, the Jersey Chamber Orchestra, the London Chamber, Festival and Philharmonic Orchestras, the London Sinfonietta, the Orchestra of St. Bartholomew, the Philharmonia, St. George’s Chamber Orchestra, the Salomon Orchestra, the Super World Orchestra and Zurich Chamber Orchestra among others.

He became a member of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1991 where he took the position of Joint Principal Viola.  With the LSO Chamber Ensemble he has performed at the 2009 Bath Music Festival and with the LSO he performed at the 2010 BBC Proms.

He is a co-founder of the World Orchestra for Peace and performed at the WWII 60th remembrance ceremony held in Krakow, Poland, by invitation.

No stranger to the recording studio he has performed on countless recordings which include Keys to the World by Richard Ashcroft, House in the Clouds by Perry Blake, When I Fall In Love by Chris Botti, Bach to Brubeck by Chris Brubeck, The Dust Bowl Symphony by Nanci Griffith, Music of Hope by the Tim Janis Ensemble, Alwyn: Complete Symphonies; Sinfonietta for Strings and Elgar: Enigma Variations; Introduction and Allegro by the LSO, Fresh Aire 8 by Mannheim Steamroller, Music of the Spheres by Mike Oldfield, Here’s to the Heroes by The Ten Tenors, Warm & Tender by Charlie Watts, Allow Us To Be Frank by Westlife and the soundtracks of The Fifth Element, The Professional, She Hate Me, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and TRON: Legacy.

In the field of musical education he has become a respected teacher and has held master classes in the UK and internationally at establishments such as The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Heidelberg University, Hochschule Karlsruhe, the Juilliard School of Music, The Royal Academy of Music and The Royal College of Music.  He is also involved with the London Symphony Orchestra’s educational package.
