Tucci, Robert

Tuba player from western Pennsylvania who began taking private lessons under Harold McDonald in 1955.  He became a member of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra and continued his studies at De Paul University School of Music, which is located in Chicago, Illinois.  During his time in the Windy City, he joined the Chicago Civic Symphony.

In 1960, he relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, where he attended Louisville University and performed in the Louisville Orchestra.  He graduated in 1962 with a B.A. in Music Education, and participated in the Fine Arts festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Then he moved to Vienna, Austria, where he furthered his education at the Akademie fur Musik und darstellende Kunst.  In 1965, he received an honors degree, and it did not take long for him to put all of his schooling to use with the Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

He was a member of the United States Army Field band from 1966 to 1969.

In 1969, he performed in the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and stayed with them for a year.

He went back to Europe and filled positions in the State Theatre in Kassel and the Bavarian State Opera, with whom he performed from 1972 to 2005.

Other groups with whom he has worked include the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Brass, the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the State Orchestra of the South German Radio in Stuttgart, the Orchestra of the Arena di Verona, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the State Orchestra of Baden Wuerttenberg, Summit Brass, and the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio.

In the field of music education, he has taught at the Hochschule fur Musik in Stuttgart and the Richard Strauss Conservatory and his own studio in Munich.

He co-designed the B & S Perantucci tuba and has served as a clinician, consultant and vice president of the Custom Music Company.
