Tryon, Denise

She is a horn player and teacher born in Roseville, Minnesota who graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy in 1989 and earned her Bachelor of Music at the New England Conservatory of Music in 1993. While in the Artist Diploma Program at the Conservatory she was the recipient of the Presidential Scholarship with the Taiyo Wind Quintet which was the winner of the Coleman Chamber Competition.

In 1995 she performed with the New World Symphony and three years later, in 1998, joined the Columbus Symphony. In 2000 she joined the Baltimore Symphony and three years later became fourth horn with the Detroit Symphony, where she stayed for six years. In 2009 she became a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra as fourth horn and remained there until 2017.

She has performed as a soloist nationally and internationally and has been a participant in the Pacific Music Festival and the Colorado Music Festival.

Recordings she has performed on include her own SO-LOW and Hope Springs Eternal and the duo A Pair of Aces with Karl Pituch along with Available Instruments by William Kleinsasser and Music of Villa-Lobos by the New World Symphony Orchestra.

In the field of musical education she founded the annual horn seminar Audition Mode in 2009. She has taught in the United States, Europe and Asia and has given many master classes and has been a featured artist at the International Horn Society Northeast Workshop. In 2007 she became a faculty member of the Peabody Conservatory, staying there until 2018, and in 2013 was on the faculty of the Blekinge International Brass Academy in Sweden. Since 2017 she has been on the faculty of Denver’s Rafael Mendez Brass Institute.
