He is a guitarist and singer born Richard McAlvin Thompson in Fairfax, South Carolina.
In the early 1970s he became a co-founder of the King Davis House Rockers, which evolved into B.T. Express after several name changes. They saw success in 1974 with the hits “Do It (‘Til You’re Satisified)” and “Express” and later chart songs such as “Give It What You Got” and “Give Up the Funk”.
Some of the albums he appeared on with B.T. Express include Energy to Burn, Function at the Junction, Non-Stop and Shout!
They disbanded in the mid-1980s but there have been several compilation albums released since and they later re-united with a new line up although Rick is no longer a member.
