Thompson, Elizabeth

She is a cellist, conductor and teacher who studied for her music degrees at Oberlin Conservatory and Rutgers University.

In her busy career as a soloist, recitalist and orchestral and chamber musician she is a co-founder of the Riverside String Quartet and has performed with many orchestras and ensembles including being the Principal Cello for Boheme Opera Orchestra, Garden State Philharmonic, New Philharmonic of New Jersey, the Philadelphia Virtuosi, Princeton Pro Musica and Riverside Sinfonia.  She has also performed with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Ensemble Chamber Players, Quarteta Vita and Westminster Choir.

In her role as a conductor she has made guest appearances with the North Jersey Symphony Orchestra and the Rutgers Festival Orchestra.

Active in the studio in several musical genres some of the recordings she has appeared on include On Course by Laurie Altman, Palookaville by Glen Burtnik, Heaven to Earth by Westminster Choir and Anthology: The Arts Songs of Stefan Hayden Young by Stefan Young.

In the field of musical education she has been a member of the faculty of Westminster Choir College.  She has also been a visiting lecturer at North Carolina State University and presented many lectures and master classes on a national and international level.
