She is a harpist, arranger and teacher Carol Horscroft born to a musical family in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, England, and living in the United States, with her father being a multi-instrumentalist and trombonist for several big bands, her grandfather being a percussionist at the Warner Brothers Studio and with the Paul Whiteman Orchestra and her mother being a member of the Bach Choir of Bethlehem as a coluratura soprano.
When she was thirteen she began to play the pedal harp under the tutelage of Dorothy Knauss and she would soon move into the performance of classical music.
Always interested in historical music, she began to concentrate on the various harps from the medieval and renaissance periods and bringing her knowledge of her family’s roots to the fore, she began playing music from Wales and other Celtic countries.
She has been heard as a soloist and as an accompanist on many recordings including Carolan’s Welcome, The Faerie Isles, The Enchanted Isles, The Blossom and the Rain, The Peacock’s Feather and Harp Ornaments.
As a teacher she gives private tutelage and has been on the faculty of the Eastern Conservatory of Music and Arts and the August Heritage Workshops in Elkins, West Virginia.
