In his professional music career he performed as a solo artist, releasing 5 albums, and worked with many musicians and singers including Scott Bayer, Jimmy Buffett, Ginger Holladay, Floyd Miles and Carly Simon.

James Taylor wrote his 1970 hit song “Sweet Baby James” after having been inspired by Alex’s son, his nephew, who had also been named James.

On the day of his brother James’ 45th birthday in Mach 1993 he died in Sanford, Florida, from a heart attack.  He was 46 years old.
