She is a pianist born in Tokyo, Japan who began to play the piano when she was three years old. She was taught in Japan before moving to the United States to study piano at the Curtis Institute of Music with Mieczyslaw Horszowski and Rudolf Serkin as well as chamber music with members of the Guarneri Quartet and Misha Schneider.
She began performing recitals from the time she was 11 years old and when she was 19 she won the J.S. Bach International Competition in Washington D.C. As a student audition winner she was a soloist with The Philadelphia Orchestra.
She became a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1985 and as a chamber musician has performed with the Philadelphia Chamber Ensemble since it started
Performing at music festivals she has participated in the Lucerne and Marlboro Music Festivals and in 2007 went on tour with the conductor Valery Gergiev as a member of the World Orchestra for Peace.
Recordings she has performed on include David Bowie: Peter and the Wolf, Eugene Ormandy Conducts Mozart Wind Concertos and Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra.
