She is a double bass player who studied with George Woodall and Paddy Brine, who was a founder of the Edmonton Public String Enrichment Program, before joining the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra as its youngest member in 1966. She retired from the ESO in 2016 after 50 years with the orchestra.
She performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada in 1967 and 1969, studying with Thomas Monahan during those years In 1968 she went to Santa Barbara, California where she studied with Maurice Abravanel, Peter Mercurio and Martial Singher at the Music Academy of the West.
During the 1970s she was a manager and co-owner of The Sunflower Inn restaurant while still performing with the ESO in concerts and events that included the original Procol Harum Live in 1971. In 1979 she became a member of the Alberta Baroque Ensemble when it was formed.
Alongside her work as a performer she was a board member of the Alberta Baroque Music Society, the Edmonton Concert Hall Foundation and the Edmonton Symphony Society. She was also worked with the American Federation of Musicians, Local 390 and was an administrator of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada for two summers.
Her partner is the jazz saxophonist P.J. Perry who is a Juno Award winner. They are the parents of Paula and the mezzo soprano Kira Guloien.
