She is a violinist born in New York City and raised in Royal Oak, Michigan, whose father was a jazz trombonist and her mother is a pianist. She started studying violin at the Detroit Community Music School when she was 4 years old which later led to her debut as a soloist with the Detroit Symphony when she was 12. She was a medal winner in 1978 and 1979 at the Stulberg International String Competition and took further studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 1981, gaining her bachelor’s degree in 1985.
She became the concertmaster of the Curtis Orchestra in the 1983-84 season and also performed as a substitute violinist with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Along with all this she played at the Taos Chamber Music Festival and the Meadowmount School for Strings.
In 1986 she became a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as a First Violin and during her career with them has been a participant on the CSO Chamber Music Series, performed wit the Chicago Chamber Musicians and at the Marlboro Chamber Music Festival.
With her mother, Jane Synnestvedt, she has performed in a violin-piano duo for much of her life.
In the recording studio she has performed on albums that include Samuel Lover: The Lovers; Prayers of Kierkegaard, Brahms – Violin Concerto/Sonata No.3, Corigliano – Symphony No. 1 and Wagner – Overtures and Preludes by Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Come On Up by Brian Culbertson, Yellowstone: The Music of Nature by Mannheim Steamroller and Concerts Under the Dome by Various Artists.
