Suzuki, Rie

She is a clarinettist and teacher born in Japan. She studied at the Musashino Academie Musicae, where she was studying when she won the Japanese Clarinet Society Recital Series in 1986 which gave her the chance to make her Tokyo debut.  She later studied for her Masters and doctorate degrees in music at Webster University in the United States and the Peabody Conservatory of Music awarded her an orchestral fellowship.

Her career as a professional musician has seen her performing on a national and international basis at various music festivals such as AIMS music festival, Aspen and Sarasota.  She is a co-founder of East Winds Quintet and Tripod Trio and has been a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Pennsylvania Ballet and the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.

She has also been heard on several radio broadcasts in New York and Baltimore and appeared on recordings that include Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 by the Ama Deus Ensemble, Music by Bach, Bartok, Stravinsky, Falla & Rachmaninoff with the Tripod Trio and Societies of Composers Inc.: Transcendencies.

Entering the field of musical education in 2002 she took on the position of Professor of Clarinet at Rowan University.  She has also been on the faculty of Philadelphia’s Temple Music Prep.
