He was a bass clarinetist, bass saxophonist and composer born in Rottweil, Germany who was a member of the contemporary classical ensemble Ensemble Modern from 1983.
He was involved with the improvision, composition and interpretation of the music performed by Ensemble Modern during his 24 years with them and worked with many artists and other composers.
In 1992 he collaborated with the ensemble and Frank Zappa on his album Yellow Shark, with the world premiere being performed at Alte Oper Frankfurt that same year.
Outside of the ensemble he was in a duo with Alfred 23 Harth and worked with the songwriter and author Hartmut Barth-Engelbart on concert readings for 15 years. He also was a co-creator of the two “Acts Against Violence…that makes the sentences fly” with Christoph Korn which was for a docuseries of the history of the Adler concentration camp Katzbach.
He dedicated Aprikosenbaume gibt es, aprikosenbaume gibt es in memoriam Rolf Riehm which was premiered posthumously at the Wittener Tage fur neue Kemmermusik festival in 2006 and later performed at the Oper Frankfurt in 2010.
In the field of musical education he worked with children in elementary school in Hanau-Lamboy and young prisoners in Wiesbaden prison.
He died in Frankfurt am Main, Germany in 2005 when he was 47 years old.
