He is a violist and teacher who took received his musical degrees from Kansas City Conservatory and Washington D.S.’s Catholic University.
An active orchestral and chamber musician he performed with the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra, the New Art String Quartet and the United States Army Strings before becoming a member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in 1975 where he performed as Co-Principal viola.
Since joining the SPCO he also gave performances with Aspen Chamber Symphony, the Santa Fe Opera and various American orchestras as well as performing in several string quartets and the Vienna Trio. He has also performed at several music festivals such as Alexandria’s Festival of the Lakes, Cascade Music Festival, Colorado Music Festival, ojai Festival and the Wintegreen (VA) Festival. He has now retired from the SPCO.
No stranger to the recording studio he has performed on many albums that include Trumpet Works by Gary Bordner, Glitter by Mariah Carey, Curiously Classical Curious George by Curious George, All For You by Janet Jackson, Chamber Works by Women Composers by The Macalester Trio, Copland: Appalachian Spring, Kodaly/Bartok and Winter Morning Walks by The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the soundtrack of Monster’s Ball.
In the field of musical education he has been on the faculties of Macalester College, Madeline Island Music Camp and the University of St. Thomas. He has also been the artist-in-residence at North Carolina School of the Arts and held master classes at the Kansas City Conservatory and the University of Minnesota.
His daughter is the violinist Anne Strasser.
