Stradner , Christoph (1970 – Present)

Cellist from Vienna, Austria, who started taking lessons with Frieda Litschauer when he was just six years old .   He attended theUniversity of Music and Performing Arts where he studied with Wolfgang Herzer .   Other teachers included Ruben Dubrovsky , David Geringas , Martin Hornstein , Steven Isserlis , Boris Kuschnir , Mischa Maisky , William Pleeth , Robert Scheiwein , Daniel Shafran and Harvey Shapiro.

Groups with whom he has worked include the Altenburg Trio, the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra, the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, EOS- Quartett Wien, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Niederosterreichisches Tonkunstlerorchester , the Tonkunstler Orchestra ofLower Austria, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Vienna Concert Society, the Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.   He is therefore the director and founder of eight cellists of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra (Eight Cellists of the Vienna Symphony).

On 24 th July 2007, he and pianist Luca Monti performed “On the Fiddle” by Michael Nyman at the Bregenz Festival inBregenz, Austria.

He and violist Johannes Flieder , pianist Fabio Luisi , violinist Anton Sorokow and double-bassist Ernst Weissensteiner interpreted Franz Schubert’s “Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667” on 1 st December 2008.   The recital also included Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Trio for Cello , Viola and Double Bass ”.

On 9 th March 2009, he and pianist Doris Adam and violinist Karin Adam appeared at the Schonberg-Center inVienna where they offered up Hans Gal’s “Trio in E major, Op. 18 ”and“ Trio in G major, Op. 49bA ”and Arnold Schonberg’s“ Transfigured Night, Op. 4 ”.

Musicians from the Vienna Symphony Orchestra participated in the Bregenz Festival at the Seestudio on 8 th August 2010 when they gave a recital of Miesczslaw Weinberg’s “Sonata No. 2, op. 63 ”and“ String Trio, Op. 48 ”.

On 11 th December 2011, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra appeared in the Great Hall at the Wiener Konzerthaus where Christoph was the soloist on Antonin Dvorak’s “Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104 ”.   The concert concluded with Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 3 in D major, Op. 29 ”(“ Polish ”).

The Altenburg Trio entertained at Musikschule Deutschlandsberg on 9 th September 2012.   Their program comprised Felix Mendelssohn’s “Trio in D minor, Op. 49 ”and Maurice Ravel’s“ Trio for Piano, Violin and Cello ”.

In 2013, they took part in the Bregenz Festival at Kunsthaus Bregenz where they performed “ Notturno ” by Andre Tchaikowsky , “ Sequence No. 8 ”by Luciano Berio , “ The Snow Has No Voice ”by Beat Furner and“ Trio, Op. 8 ”by Dmitri Shostakovich.

In the field of music education, he has taught master classes and served on the faculty of the Private University at the Conservatory in Vienna.
