Stoltz, Brian

He is a guitarist and singer-songwriter from New Orleans who began getting his name recognised when he was performing with The Neville Brothers for a decade from around 1982 to 1992.

 He moved on to the group The Funky Meters and worked as a sought after session and touring musician with artists that include Jimmy Buffett, Dr. John, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, The Grateful Dead, The Police, Lou Reed, Zachary Richard, Linda Ronstadt, Paul Simon and U2.

He ventured out on his solo career, releasing several albums, and also began to concentrate on adding the other attributed of writing melody and lyrics to his skills.  This would pay off when he gained a 2004 Grammy Award nomination for his work on Preachin’ the Blues: The Music of Mississippi Fred McDowell.  Other award winning material is his music score for Mashed Potatoes, which won the 2007 Ozone Film Festival Award for Best Short Documentary and being honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Music Corporation.

His album tally includes his own East of Rampart Street, Gods, Guns & Money, Starving Buddha and Up All Night and also Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads by Jimmy Buffett, Oh Mercy by Bob Dylan and We Ran by Linda Ronstadt as well as compilations such as Blues on Blonde on Blonde and Salute to the Delta Blues Masters.   He is now with the group PBS, Porter, Batiste, Stoltz, with George Porter Jr. and Russell Batiste Jr.
