Stock, Chris

Composer and percussionist from Chelmsford, Essex, who attended the Royal College of Music and went on to join the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the faculty of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Some of his students have been Simon Brittlebank, Dave Danford, Alun Horgan, and Luke Wyeth.

His compositions include “Crossfire”, “Echoes of the Reedbed”, “Jasmine on the Breeze”, “Jupiter’s Dance”, “Rituelle”, and “Rumble”. “Jupiter’s Dance” appeared on Simone Rebello’s 1995 album, A Secret Place. Recordings on which Chris performed include Celebration: Christmas Fanfares & Carols, The Spirit of Christmas Present, and Trumpet Renaissance.

In January 2002, Chris, along with Robert Court, David Langstroth, and members of Forsvarets Distriktsmusikkorps Nord-Norge, Det Norsk Solistkor, and Tromso Symfonieorkester, premiered “Schizophonia” by Sean Cubitt, Esther Dyson, Nigel Morgan, and Walt Whitman. Nigel dedicated “Flights”, a piece for percussion and violin, to Chris and Nick Wilding.
