Stinson, Harry

He is a singer-songwriter, drummer, producer and musical director who grew up in Nashville, Tennessee.

One of his first musical ventures was in the 1970s in a band with the son of the singer Dottie West which led to them touring with her. This got him noticed and he was soon to be heard as a replacement drummer for the group America.

He decided to relocate to California, where he founded the band Silver, and saw some success with his hit song “Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang”.

Returning to Nashville in the ’80s he was snapped up to become a member of Steve Earle’s Dukes and after spending about 18 months with them he went on to work with Lyle Lovett. 1988 saw him as a member of The Overtones and following on from that he was a co-founder of Dead Reckoning.

His songwriting was also noticed and in 1996 the Nashville Songwriter’s Association presented him with the Songwriter Achievement Award for his “Wild Angels” which was co-written with Martina McBride.

Moving into the realms of production he was a co-founder of Dead Reckoning Records and has produced several records for his co-members of Dead Reckoning and also the singer Trisha Yearwood.

Working with many artists throughout his career he has worked as a producer and/or musician/singer with acts such as John Anderson, Clint Black, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Roseanne Cash, Neil Diamond, Dixie Chicks, Freddie Fender, Crystal Gayle, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Etta James, Janis Ian, Elton John, George Jones, Mark Knopfler, Nicolette Larson, Mac MacAnally, The Mavericks, Reba McEntire, Bette Midler, Juice Newton, Nity Gritty Dirt Band, Mark O’Connor, Buck Owens, Dolly Parton, The Pointer Sisters, Timothy B. Schmidt, Earl Scruggs, Dan Seals, George Strait, The Texas Tornadoes, Pam Tillis, Randy Travis, Conway Twitty, and Tammy Wynette to name just a few. Albums he features on are countless but include Last Mango in Paris by Jimmy Buffett, In My Lifetime by Neil Diamond, Art of Control by Peter Frampton, Bluebird by Emmylou Harris, Now That I’ve Found You: A Collection by Alison Krauss, Great Divide by Willie Nelson, Hank Wilson, Vol 3: Legend in My Lifetime by Leon Russell, It’s a Mystery by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, 24 Carrots by Al Stewart, Buffalo Zone by Sweethearts of the Rodeo and Pure Hank by Hank Williams Jr. as just a small selection.

The 2000s saw him continuing to perform, record and produce and in 2002 he became a co-founder of the band Marty Stuart & The Fabulous Superlatives who received a 2007 Grammy Award nomination for his co-produced Live At the Ryman.
