He is a trombonist born in Glasgow, Scotland who received his musical education at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Winning the 1983 Shell/LSO brass competition in 1983 he has gone on to perform with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, the Academy of St. Martin in the Field, the London Brass, the Michael Gibbs Orchestra and the Michael Nyman Band.
Working with many modern popular artists he has appeared live and/or on albums with S Club 7, Sir Elton John, Robbie Williams, Annie Lennox, Joni Mitchell, Quincy Jones, Mike Gibbs, John Surman and Natalie Cole and many more.
Often sought after in the recording studio he can be heard on an array of soundtracks of film and theatre that include at least five James Bond movies, Lord of the Rings, Metropolis, The 25th Hour and the The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Rarum Xiv, Free and Equal and The Brass Project with John Surnam, Message from the Border by Orlando Gough, Some of Our Best Friends by the London Trombone Quartet, Totally James Bond: The Essential 007 Themes by the Ian Rich Orchestra, Greatest Hits and Christmas Album by the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, Telemann: Trumpet Concertos by John Wallace, By the Way by the Michael Gibbs Orchestra and Impressions of Brass and Christmas with the London Brass with the London Brass.
