Sobieski, Michal

Violinist from Warsaw, Poland, who attended Indiana University and the Warsaw Academy of Music. In 1979, he became a member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Other groups with whom he has worked include the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Music Minnesota, Con Moto Ma Cantabile, the East Metro Symphony Orchestra, the Macalester Trio, the Maracaibo Symphony Orchestra, the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra, the Minnesota Chamber Players, the North Star Opera Orchestra, the Sobieski String Quartet, the Symphony Orchestra of the State of Mexico, the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble and the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.

He and cellist James Jacobson, violinist Elsa Nielsen and violist Tamas Strasser interpreted Ludwig van Beethoven’s “String Quartet in F minor, Op. 95” (“Serioso”) on 22^nd March 1998.

On 18^th April 1999, his recording of Johannes Brahms’ “Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Op. 108” with pianist Layton James aired on Minnesota Public Radio.

He performed Felix Mendelssohn’s “Concerto in E minor, Op. 64” with the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra on Nicolett Island on 19^th July 2009.

On 4^th January 2010, he and violist David Auerbach, cellist David Huckaby and violinist Leslie Shank played “Divertimento in D major” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart for the inauguration of Chris Coleman, incumbent mayor of Saint Paul, at Union Depot.

He interpreted Brahms’ “Violin Concerto” with the East Metro Symphony Orchestra at East Ridge High School in Woodbury on 28^th October 2012.

In the field of music education, he has served on the faculty of Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota.
