Timpanist who attended the Hilversums conservatorium and the Sweelinck conservatorium and graduated with degrees in performance and teaching.
He was a member of the National Youth Orchestra from 1985 to 1988 and the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1991 to 2005. From 2005, he has been the Principal Timpanist of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
Other groups with whom he has performed include the Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, the Flemish Opera Orchestra, the Hague Residentie Orchestra, the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Orchestra Sinfonica de Tenerife, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Symfonia Toscanini.
He is also one half of the Flying Dutch Percussion Team, with Peter Vulperhorst. They participated in the 2007 Dutch Drum Event in Heerenveen, The Netherlands.
In September 2009, Maarten taught a couple of master classes at the seventh annual Days of Percussion festival and competition in Fermo, Italy.
