Siegel, Ray

If you own any Elvis Presley albums, chances are you have heard Ray Siegel play bass. He appears on a goodly chunk of the King’s discography, including the movie soundtracks G.I. Blues and King Creole.

It was not his only film work: He is also a part of the orchestra on Miklos Rozsa’s famous score to Ben-Hur, and collaborated with guitarist Laurindo Almeida on the film-music album, The Legendary Victor Young.

Ray has recorded with Chet Atkins, The Burnette Brothers, Doris Day, Dub Dickerson, Merle Haggard, Rick Nelson, Frank Sinatra, and Sarah Vaughan.

As a teacher, he has passed along his knowledge to a new generation of bass players, and has even dabbled in classical, performing works of Beethoven and Rossini in concert with the South Bay Chamber Music Society, Inc.

He also hooked up with the Musart String Quartet of Los Angeles on their recordings of Mozart’s “Divertimento No. 7 in D major”, “Adagio and Rondo”, and “String Quartet in C major”.
