Siakala, Peter

Cellist who attended the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, and studied under Wolfgang Herzer.

Groups with whom he has worked include Accentus, the Doremis Ensemble, Ensemble Kaleidoskop, the Vienna Concert Society, Vienna Ensemble Bell’Arte, and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

On 11^th April 1986, he and pianist Christian Krattenthaler interpreted Claude Debussy’s “Sonata” at the Gewerbesaal in Modling.

The Vienna Symphony Orchestra appeared at the University of Michigan’s Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor on 11^th November 1988. Their program comprised the overture from The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Der Rosenkavalier Suite, Op. 59” by Richard Strauss and Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14 by Hector Berlioz.

On 25^th October 2005, they took the stage in the Grosser Saal at Musikverein where they performed Johannes Brahms’ “Serenade No. 1 in D major, Op. 11” and Mozart’s “Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra in A major, K. 622”, with soloist Reinhard Wieser.

Lang Lang took on solo duties when they performed Frederic Chopin’s “Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11” in the same venue on 5^th March 2006. It was sandwiched between Mozart’s “Symphony No. 14 in G minor, K. 183” and Robert Schumann’s “Symphony No. 1 in B major, Op. 38” (“Fruhlingssymphonie”).

On 4^th December 2007, the Eight Cellists of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra were in Brahms Hall for a concert that included Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (Cantatas I-III) and Heitor Villa Lobos’s “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5” with mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Wolfbauer.

They were in Mozart Saal on 12^th October 2009 when they offered up Bach’s “Tonet, ihr Pauken! Erschallet, Trompeten”, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake Suite, Op. 20”, Villa-Lobos’s “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1” and Richard Wagner’s “Siegfried Idyll”.

On 25^th September 2010, they appeared at the Centre des Arts Pluriels Ed. Juncker where they performed “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1” by Villa-Lobos, “Barcarolle” from Tales of Hoffman by Jacques Offenbach, “Die Moldau” from Ma Vlast by Bedrich Smetana and “Swan Lake Suite, Op. 20” by Tchaikovsky.

Peter and guitarist Dionysis Anninos, pianist Athena Capodistria, violinists Celine Roscheck and Jacqueline Roscheck-Morard and violist Anna Siakala entertained at the Petros M. Nomikos Conference Centre on 7^th & 8^th September 2011. Their recital included Luigi Boccherini’s “Guitar Quintet No. 4 in D major”, Paul Walter Furst’s “Duo”, Mozart’s “Quartet in C major, K. 157” and Schumann’s “Piano Quintet, Op. 44”.

On 26^th November 2012, the Eight Cellists of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra gave a benefit concert at the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium. Highlights include “Akrostichon, Op. 237a” by Ernst Krenek, the overture from Manon Lescaut by Giacomo Puccini and a suite from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky.

The Doremis Ensemble gave a wall-to-wall Bach recital on 28^th July 2013. The first half of the program featured Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s “Flute Concerto in D minor, Wq 22” and “Trio Sonata in C major, Wq 147”; the second half featured J.S. Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D major, BWV 1050” and “Trio Sonata” from Musikalischen Opfer, BWV 1079.

Recordings on which Peter appears include: Acht Cellisten der Wiener Symphoniker Live aus dem Casino Baumgarten: Johann Sebastian Bach/Heitor Villa-Lobos and Tchaikovsky: Nutcracker & Swan Lake Suites with the Eight Cellists of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra; and, Franz Joseph Haydn: Notturni with the Vienna Concert Society.

Peter performs here in a stage production that includes “Bachianas Bresileiras No. 5” by Heitor Villa-Lobos with cellists from the Vienna Symphony Orchestra…
