Shackelton, Louise

She is a violinist who was born and raised in the United States to a family who had emigrated from the United Kingdom. Her studies were undertaken at Northwestern University and the Eastman School of Music.

After she embarked on her professional career she landed her first job as a violinist with the Florida Symphony Orchestra. She then went on to play with several other American orchestras that include the Boston Ballet Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and the Rochester Philharmonic.

In 1994/5 she relocated to the United Kingdom after Sir Simon Rattle awarded her the position of Co-Principal Second Violin with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. She moved on in 2001 when she became a violinist with the London Symphony Orchestra where she was on the Board as a Player Director.

In 2008 she performed with Condaleeza Rice in a private recital in front of Queen Elizabeth II.

In the recording studio she has performed on Classikhan by Chaka Khan.

Outside of music she married the British Labour Party politician David Milliband in 1998 and they have two adopted sons, Isaac and Jacob. She is also a director of the company David Milliband Limited.
