Scholz, Veit

He is a bassoon player born in Monchengladbach to a family of cantors and became interested in the clarinet while young but switched to the bassoon after he met his parent’s friend Koki Sasano who was the solo bassoon for the Lower Rhine Symphony Orchestra.  He studied at both Detmold  and Hanover with Helman Jung and Klaus Thunemann respectively and went on to become a bassoon soloist in Nuremberg.

He became a founding member of Ensemble Modern, which had started in 1980 and in 1982 took the position of solo bassoonist with  the Dusseldorf Symphony Orchestra.

He has also performed as a member of Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin, Balthasar-Newumann Ensemble, Collegium Cartusianum,  Ensemble Musicfabrik NRW, the New Dusseldorf Court Music and the Stuttgart Baroque Orchestra.

Recordings he has performed on include Pastorale for English Horn and Organ with Hanspeter Weber along with The Forest by David Byrne,  Cherubini: Requiem/In Paradisum by Das Neue Orchester and Chorus Musicus, Anthony Braxton: 2 Compositions by Ensemble Modern, Johann Sebastian Bach: Markus Passion by Kolner Akademie,  Georg Philipp Telemann: Horn Concertos and Overtures by Neue Dusseldorfer Hofmusik, and The Yellow Shark, Civilization Phaze III and Everything Is Healing Nicely by Frank Zappa.
