Schmit, Timothy B. (30th October 1947-Present )

He is a singer-songwriter and guitarist born in Oakland, California and raised in Sacramento.

When he was 15 he became part of the group Tim, Tim & Ron and they changed their name over time to The Contenders, followed by New Breed and then Glad.

He replaced Randy Meisner on bass in the band Poco in 1970 and he would replace him again when he joined the Eagles as bassist in 1977.

As a songwriter he co-wrote “I Can’t Tell You Why” for the Eagles 1979 album The Long Run, and he would later appear singing lead vocals on “Love Will Keep Us Alive” on the 1994 album Hell Freezes Over.

He started out on a solo career in 1980, when the Eagles had first broken up, and also worked as a session bass player and vocalist as well as touring with Jimmy Buffet from 1983 to 1985 and being a member of Ringo Starr’s All-Star Band. He has sung as a backing vocalist on songs including “Dirty Laundry” by Don Henley and “Southern Cross” by Crosby, Stills and Nash and “Caroline, No” with the Beach Boys in 1996 and is still currently working with the re-united Eagles.

Other artists he has performed with include Greg Allman, America, Clint Black, Pat Boone, Andy Childs, Gene Clark, Steve Cropper, Sheena Easton, Firefall, Dan Fogelberg, David Foster, Vince Gill, Julian Lennon, Richard Marx, Randy Newman, Tommy Roe, Spinal Tap, Carl Wilson, Dwight Yoakam and Warren Zevon.

He has released the solo CDs Feed the Fire, Play It Cool, Tell Me the Truth and Timothy B. and with other artists has featured on Stars & Stripes Vol. 1 by The Beach Boys, Last Mango in Paradise by Jimmy Buffett, Daylight Again by Crosby, Stills & Nash, Soul Searchin’ by Glenn Frey, 21 at 33 by Elton John, Subtlety & Passion by Robert Lamm, Heart Like a Wheel by Linda Ronstadt, Hits! by Boz Scaggs, Against the Wind by Bob Seger, Live from Montreux, Vol. 2 by Ringo Starr, Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan, Toto IV by Toto and But Seriously Folks… by Joe Walsh among others. In the movies he performed in the 1987 Scenes from a Goldmine and featured on the soundtracks Cry-Baby, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, Fast Times in Ridgemont High, Fresh Horses and Secret Admirer.

As a member of the Eagles he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. In 2012 Berklee College of Music awarded him an honorary Doctorate of Muisc.
