he is a cellist born in Boston, Massachusetts, who was initially taught by her father who was the Principal Cellist of the St. Louis Symphony. She studied at the Curtis Institute of Music on a full scholarship followed by the Juilliard School.
After winning the all-Julliard Schumann Cello Concerto Competition she began her career by giving many performances at Lincoln Center. As a soloist she has given performances all over the world and with orchestras including the Moscow State Philharmonic, the Boston Pops and the Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra.
The winner of many international competitions including the Eight International Tchaikovsky Violincello Competition in Moscow, and the subject of two PBS documentaries, she has released several CDs, winning a Grammy Award for her album of Bernstein’sArias and Barcarolles.
She became a founding member of the Eroica Trio in 1987 and with them she has received further acclaim and received several Grammy Award nominations.
