He is a flautist who studied at the High SchoolofMusic in Cologne, Germany and went on to train with the flautist Wilbert Hazelhet.
He went on from there to perform with many European ensembles that include Berliner Barock Solisten, Capella Coloniensis des WDR, Collegium Aureum, Concerto Copenhagen, Europa Galante, La Chapelle Royal and Musica Antiqua Koln.
In 1982 he and the oboist Martin Niesemann founded Il Concerto Koln which has seen success nationally and internatinally in many chamber music concerts, at many music festivals, with singers and in the recording studio. He became the ensemble’s Artistic Director in 2005 and remained in the position until 2015.
Since 2013 he became Principal Flute, Curator and Conductor with musicAeterna in St.Petersburg.
As a recording artist he can be heard performing on albums that include his own Joseph Martin Kraus: Flotenquintett; Streichquartett along with Haydn: Cantates Pour Les Esterhazy with Cappella Coloniensies, Johann Wilhelm Wilms: Sinfona und Solokonzerte with the Kolner Academie Orchestra, Charles Avison: Concerti Gross after Scarlatti, The Concerto Koln Christmas Album, Henri-Joseph Rigel: Symphonies, Vivaldi: Concerti, Bach: The Orchestral Suites and Gossec: Symphonies with Il Concerto Koln, Heinichen: Lamentationes/Passionsmusik y Musica Antiqua Koln and Munich Court Music with Neue Hofkapelle Munchen along with many others.
In the field of musical education he has regularly given masterclasses in Italy and Germany.
