Caviezel, Samuel

He is a clarinettist born in Seattle who grew up in Washington at Puget Sound.  He studied with the Seattle Symphony‘s Laurie DeLuca and went further with the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association followed by studies at the Interlochan Arts Academy in his senior high school year.  He went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music from 1992 with Donald Montanaro who was the Associate Principal Clarinet with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the time.

After graduating he became Principal Clarinet of the Grand Rapids Symphony and remained there for two years before becoming Associate Principal and E flat Clarinettist with The Philadelphia Orchestra where he holds the Sarah and Frank Coulson Chair.

As a chamber musician he has given many performances with ensembles and as a member of the Philadelphia Chamber Ensemble.

Recordings he has performed on include Piano Pops by Grand Rapids Symphony and Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra.

In the field of musical education he was worked at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance as an adjunct faculty member .
