Rowlinson, Stephen

Violinist who attended the City of Norwich School, Lakenham Junior school, and the Royal College of Music, and studied with Hugh Skeens.

Groups with whom he has performed included the Camerata String Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Norfolk Youth Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic.

In March 2009, the LSO presented “Russian Dreams: The Music of Sergei Prokofiev” at Lincoln Center. The eight-day extravaganza included all of the Russian master’s symphonies and violin concertos, and his second and fourth piano concertos.

The LSO were back home at the Barbican on 1^st July 2010 for a Bruch-Bruckner match-up that included Max Bruch’s “Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26”, with soloist Renaud Capucon, and Anton Bruckner’s “Symphony No. 7 in E”.

On 1^st April 2011, Stephen returned to the City of Norwich School for a concert in St. Andrew’s Hall to celebrate his alma mater’s centenary.

The LSO performed an all-Sibelius program on 19^th October 2011 that comprised the Finnish composer’s “Symphony No. 2 in D major” and “Violin Concerto in D minor”.

Igor Stravinsky got similar treatment on 11^th May 2012 when the London Symphony Chorus and Orchestra teamed up for the Russian’s Mass. That was followed by his “Violin Concerto in D major”, with soloist Leonidas Kavakos, and the complete version of his ballet, The Firebird.
